American Association of Zoo Keepers
Join us for the Post Conference trip to the Seneca Park Zoo!
The Seneca Park Zoo opened in 1894. It's a 16-acre facility that is located within an Frederick Law Olmstead park. The zoo is home to over 300 animals including New York State's only African elephants and Bornean orangutans. The most recent addition to the zoo is a 23,000 square foot state of the art elephant facility and baboon enclosure. The final portion of "Africa" is a new lion exhibit, which will open in the spring of 2012.
Seneca Park's AAZK Chapter was founded in 1999 by 8 keepers. Today every part-time and full-time keeper at SPZ is a member of the local Chapter and most are members of the national organization. Active in fund-raising for local, national, and international conservation efforts, the SPZ Chapter of the AAZK has raised over $75,000 since it began. Our annual "Animal Art Expo" is our most popular fundraiser to date, often raising over $10,000 which is used to promote keeper development and support animal enrichment throughout the zoo.
